Top ten strategies to beat procrastination

 
  1. Define and understand what procrastination is and why we do it
  1. Make rewards and consequences more immediate
  1. Design your environment - remove distractions, create commitment devices
  1. Make the task more achievable -e.g. 2-minute rule and 4-minute rule
  1. Scheduling - use calendar - design days you want to have
  1. Kanban - make it visual (to do / doing / done)
  1. Momentum comes from action E.G. paper clip method
  1. Create a starting routine
  1. Pomodoro - 25 minute intervals
  1. Use verb on to-do lists - e.g. action word

The Ivy Lee Method

During his 15 minutes with each executive, Ivy Lee explained his simple daily routine for achieving peak productivity:
  1. At the end of each work day, write down the six most important things you need to accomplish tomorrow. Do not write down more than six tasks.
  1. Prioritize those six items in order of their true importance.
  1. When you arrive tomorrow, concentrate only on the first task. Work until the first task is finished before moving on to the second task.
  1. Approach the rest of your list in the same fashion. At the end of the day, move any unfinished items to a new list of six tasks for the following day.
